How many years have you been in landscaping business, and what inspired you to get started?
Ive been in landscape design and lawn maintenance for almost 20 years. My career commercially began on Ft Leavenworth mowing as a subcontractor for housing. From there I went to Mississippi and worked on the military base in Gulfport. Most of my career was spent maintaining military bases. . After leaving that company I went to work for some smaller companies. I essentially went to work for these businesses with the idea to learn many different ways of running the business and then to begin my own business adventure. I've mowed grass all the way from Miami Florida to the South West and then back to the Midwest. I have 4 Children and you can often find one of them shadowing me during the summer months mowing yards. Im starting my business after a long career in the government part of the industry.
How does your work stand out from other lawn service companies in the area?
I take my time when servicing a property. I pay attention to detail and I am a very talented with pruning shears. I have worked alongside many talented men and women of all colors and beliefs. With nearly every experience to math the job at hand. I am not your regular mow and blow lawn care company. I am meticulous and am very much obsessive compulsive in my field. When you hire a lawn service you generally don't hire the man with the original vision for the business if it's a bigger company. My work will stand out against the others because I have a different experience than many of the local companies started. As I have traveled to many different places and have seen the many different ways of running the business. A wise man learns from his mistakes and a wiser man learns by watching others mistakes. Many lawn service providers can mow grass but very few can provide a service that has mowed over 20 different types of grasses. And one that understands what it means to properly prune grass, shrubs, and tree's.
What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
Good work isn't always cheap. And cheap work isn't always good. If they are in and out in 20 minutes then they are most likely not valuing the customers who have hired them. Unless the job is that small. My customers have a certain feeling of appreciation for the time I spend on the property making it right so their are no mistakes. No more mow and blow.
What do you like most about the lawn care industry?
The constant need for adaptation. This business is not for the weak. It can chew you up and spit you out if you don't adapt to the industry that constantly changes. If you don't adapt and grow with the changes you will be left behind. I love changes and I love growth. That is why I like pruning. I love shaping and changing landscapes. I don't let the business dictate how I operate. I learned ways to adapt and develop as an employee in the field and as an operator. Landscaping has so many aspects of it that you are always learning new ways and different things to make you more experienced. I've enjoyed working in the many different parts of the landscape industry. However my experience with large acreage contracts is very valuable. My passion regarding the horticulture practices and agronomics is very important to me. I enjoy learning about new plants from around the world. I've done extensive pruning in 3 different regions of the United States in my travels. I like to tell people that I am the most well traveled landscaper they will ever meet. Even if it is a bit of a exaggeration. It's because I am proud of the work I have achieved in my career.
