This Pro's Story
Depot Lawncare was started in 2005 by Kumar Gonzalez. "It was actually just a side business when I had my car accessory shop," Kumar laughs, "and it kept steadily growing so I decided to focus solely on that."
Born and raised in Venezuela, his family found themselves back to the states when he was 6 years old. "When I was 14 years old, I saw a friend that was making money mowing lawns so I thought I would give it a try." Kumar would mow as many lawns as he possible could after school and in the summers before heading off to college at the University of Southern California.
He has lived in the Nashville area ever since and his business has grown tremendously.
Depot Lawncare has over 275 recurring customers and is working with 8 crews. They mainly service Sylvan Park, Sylvan Heights, West End, Crieve Hall, Green Hills, Woodlawn, Belle Meade, Forest Hills, and Brentwood.
His main strategy on his steady growth is "focusing on his customers so they have no choice but to tell their friends." Gonzalez explains, "We will go above and beyond for our customers because we want them to talk about us."
The full range of services that Depot Lawncare performs are full service regular landscaping, leaf removal, gutter cleaning, and even have a flat rate delivery service. "We want to be your one-stop shop for anything regarding your home," Gonzalez explains.
When Kumar is not in his office, he enjoys day trading and is an avid kickball player and has won a few trampoline dodge ball tournaments. He is also constantly conceptualizing how he can make his business grow through technology and we believe the best is yet to come with Kumar.
Kumar does not have any children yet but his family hopes that will change soon.

How many years have you been in landscaping business, and what inspired you to get started?
I have been in the lawn care business since I was 14 years old. I am 37 now. So that would be about 23 years. When I was younger a friend got me in the business. He left, but I stayed. I enjoy taking my time with mother nature, and I try to instill this philosophy with my employees as well.
How does your work stand out from other lawn service companies in the area?
We have an actual office staff to answer the phone, emails, and questions 5 days a week, 40 hrs per week. Don't be left our in the heat repeatedly leaving messages on your lawn guys voicemail. Connect with a real person 40 hours per week. We also offer a full array of services including leaf removal, landscaping, gutter cleaning, aeration, debris removal, tree work, and more. We are a one stop shop for your outdoor needs.
What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
I would always go as far as possible in researching a company. Going online to see if they have a website, an established internet presence, and most importantly, are carrying insurance. The lowest price is not always the lowest price in the end if the company you are dealing with is not properly insured. Our competitor research also shows we are price in the middle to lower part of the market spectrum.
What do you like most about the lawn care industry?
I enjoy being able to look back after a job is complete, and think, "Wow! what a difference!"
What areas do you mainly service?
We mainly service the Southern 1/2 of Nashville. From the Cumberland River and South. We also cover East Nashville. Inside a limit of about 10 miles from the 37204 Post Office.
