How many years have you been in landscaping business, and what inspired you to get started?
While most kids will be soaking up the summer sun in a pool or lake, you’ll find 14-year-old Lucas pushing a lawnmower, making sure every blade of grass of a neighbor’s lawn is just the right height. It’s a tough job, but Lucas finds peace pushing the mower back and forth because he’s thinking about his mom, who died from pancreatic cancer in 2014. “He thought he would make his mother proud by mowing lawns and mowing lawns for people who maybe can’t afford to get them professionally done,” said Lucas’ dad, Bill. Lucas recently started his own lawn service company to earn money to restore a 66’ Plymouth Fury and to push past the depression and anxiety of losing his sweet mom at such a young age. “For the last couple of years, he’s been in and out of depression,” said Bill, Lucas’ father. “He didn’t want to do many things or go anywhere.” Just like the lawns Lucas transforms, his spirit is changing too. And he’s one step closer to finishing the Fury. Lucas started the restoration project as a homeschool assignment with his dad, Bill, who has stage 4 kidney disease. “He’s always loved cars . . . it takes his mind off things and keeps him busy,” said Bill.
