How many years have you been in landscaping business, and what inspired you to get started?

I established East Coast Lawns LLC in 2017. What inspired me to start this business was losing my mother to health issues. She was a RN and worked tirelessly for years until her health deteriorated and she encountered complications post surgery. One thing that I took away from that life event is that life is too short. I tried a career as an EMT and Deputy Sheriff when I realized I was going down the same rabbit hole. I never saw my family and my mental and physical health was deteriorating. I decided to get out and build something I could call my own. My thought is, if I could take some tasks off someones to do list to give them a little more time to do what they want while giving me more time with my family, it's a no brainer. I talked it over with my wife and kids, got them on board with living the frugal life for a little while until we grew our business to support us and our needs. Now we are hiring people and changing lives! I want to give back and give others the opportunity to have a happy career of helping others. Meeting new people every day has really opened my eyes to what a great community we live in and I'm proud to serve them.

We try very hard to be a different type of property maintenance provider. We close gates (we love our pets too!). We show up on your scheduled service day each week and if we can't due to weather, you are notified.  Major Difference # 3 - We don't just insure our equipment, we protect you and your property with a one million dollar liability policy. If your property was damaged or a worker was injured on your property.... If your lawn care company could not pay who would? YOU OR YOUR HOMEOWNERS INSURANCE! That's not good enough, that's not fair. What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

Let’s face it, there are tons of great service providers out there ready to go. A few things you want to do when shopping around are: 1. Get at least three comparable estimates. by comparable I mean insured, legal businesses. 2. Licensed and insured companies will cost more but you won’t be stuck with a huge repair bill when "Joe Mow" runs his mower into your car or shoots a rock into your window. 3. Don’t hire based on price alone. Check out reviews on Green Pal, Google or other platforms to see what kind of reputation they have. 4. Think about secure payment options. Does the provider accept credit cards? Or will you have to remember to leave cash under the door mat... will the wind blow the cash away? 5. Make sure you know if you will be required to sign a contract and if so, how long will it be. A lot of companies will require an annual contract which may mean you pay even if your property wasn't serviced..

What do you like most about the lawn care industry?

The best thing about the green industry is getting to know your clients and watch how something as simple as grounds maintenance can allow them to enjoy the time and space they have with family and friends. We get to maintain these homes that people will have as lifelong memories.
