How many years have you been in landscaping business, and what inspired you to get started?

Cook’s Lawncare is a family owned small business located in Champaign, IL and it all started with a lawnmower. Before i started my own business I would cut grass for my family and friends as a hobby and worked full time as a residential disposal driver. I honestly wanted to do more with my life and always wanted to become a small business owner and with a start of $500 i became just that. I also wanted something to pass down to my 2 sons when they’re older. What makes my small business different from the others is first I treat my clients yards just like my yard and I take that to heart. I feel that when i maintenance someone’s yard that is a representation of me and my business and I treat my clients just like family. I’m also a small business owner so when a client books me to service their yard needs , they are supporting a family and when I’m not working I’m with my family spending quality time. I service all neighborhoods in Champaign/Urbana and it surround cites and as far south as Charleston, IL and as far north as Rantoul and its surround cities. Cook’s Lawncare offers other services such as Spring/fall cleaning , edging, weed control, shrub & hedge trimming, mulching, yard waste removal, snow removal and power-washing. My hobbies when not working include traveling with my family, playing basketball and spending quality time with my 2 boys.

How does your work stand out from other lawn service companies in the area?

I love the freedom it gives and before working on my own i was in the landscaping business as a hobby so i wasn’t even getting paid for my work. I actually consider my business cutting grass as a way of therapy for me and the money is just a bonus. I love being able to ride by a clients house and see my hard work and go home as me being the boss.

What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

All towns in Champaign/Urbana, Savoy and other surrounding cities. Rantoul , Mahomet.

What do you like most about the lawn care industry?

I have been in landscaping for a year with my own business but mowing lawns for years for family and friends. What inspired me to start my own business is after my last employer didn’t treat the employees right and i didn't want to keep giving my time and hard work to a company that didn’t appreciate me while missing out on quality time with my family. It was a wake up call for me to start my own and have something to pass down to my children.

What areas do you mainly service?

I let the lawn speak for itself also my prices are very affordable and I give great work whereas others it can be more expensive and the craftsmanship is below average. I am prompt, give free estimates with all new prospectives and each time a client calls , new or current I answer all calls and texts. When you call you will always be speaking directly to the owner and operator whereas much companies can’t say that they have a close business relationship with their customers from start to finish.
