This Pro's Story

How many years have you been in landscaping business, and what inspired you to get started?

Truth be told I have been in the lawn care / landscaping business over 30 years. I started in my very early teens pushing a lawn mower and weed eater around the neighborhood, cutting neighbors yards for a little extra pocket change. I did this because I like cutting grass. In my early 20's I started researching and educating myself on how to start, build and operate a business. I just wanted something that I could do with minimal help, if any.

How does your work stand out from other lawn service companies in the area?

I spend a good amount of time in my yard from week to week, with me doing something most days in my yard. This same energy is well spent in the yard that I have done in the past and will continue to do in the future. My desire is to have each lawn that I do to be the best lawn that I do. I do not enter into a lawn with the thought of "How fast can I get this done" but instead "What do I have to do to this lawn to have it looking the best I possibly can". Putting myself as a neighbor of my one of my customers watching me mow a lawn, I would like to be seen as attentive, patient, and thorough. I want them to see and understand that I am not out to just "cut" a lawn, but instead "Maintain and Manicure" lawns. Truthfully what makes me different? What makes me stand out? Well it's simple, PATIENCE; the willingness to spend whatever amount of time necessary to get your lawn looking the best I can. I would rather spend all day in one lawn getting it the best I can then cut a bunch of lawns per week.

What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

Seek out the ones that care not just for the money, but for your desires for your lawn and your lawns health and vitality itself. Those are the ones who will make your labs lawns look absolutely amazing. I believe the smaller the company the better. They are the ones who will spend the time to create beauty and provide great quality, not just a lawn mowing.

What do you like most about the lawn care industry?

Simply put... I like the way that well done lawns makes an entire neighborhood smile. Not just the people, but the houses and lawns themselves. I am the owner of a lawn company and the sole technician.... I am free from anyone's time clock but my own. Even though you work for the customer, you work for yourself. You set your own hours. You determine who you want to work with or for. You decide on; the type business person you are, the type of company you want to be, the public appearance you want people to see, the reputation you develop within the community, and many other things that working for someone else would decide for you. Being a lawn man also gives me the freedom to actually interact with customers on a more personal level.

What areas do you mainly service?

I would like to only work in the area's that closely surround the Killeen area; Killeen, Harker Heights, Nolanville, Copperas Cove, and as such. I do not and will not go onto the main portion of Fort Hood, whether its main Fort Hood or West Fort Hood, but I will except jobs in any of the off base housing. For those in Temple and Belton there is a fee of $10, to be paid upon arrival, for the travel time out there, whether or not you receive service from me.
